John Ritter stars as a struggling actor who gets in way over his head when he dons the costume of the fictional Captain Avenger and is mistaken for a Hero at Large. During a publicity event, Steve Nichols (Ritter) thwarts a real crime while dressed as Captain Avenger, and the public believes a masked crime fighter has arrived on the scene. Now, Nichols quickly becomes accustomed to his newfound fame, but is a little too slow to understand the downside of his new career as Hero at Large.
