I’d normally argue for seeing any halfway decent film that isn’t a standard adaptation, remake, or part of a franchise, simply because we need more original films. Yet it plays like Greengrass is just taking a well-worn page out of the superhero playbook.

While some would label them terrorists, nothing they do is any different from what William Wallace’s acolytes or those in "Inglourious Basterds." For others, they'll be justified, righteous, and necessary for the achievement of admirable long-term goals.

The period drama works like a seesaw, oscillating between high-tension, high-stakes drama and underwhelming sequences that dissipate its pent-up energy.

"The Uprising," for all its flaws as a film, highlights the responsibility of everyone, but especially those in positions of power, to safeguard human dignity through the dignity of work and care for the poor.

It’s dark, violent, and unsettling – and really resonates today. Andrew Garfield is always great but he really shines here. A truly great story that leaves much to think about regarding politics, faith, and human behavior.
