When his girlfriend, Sandy (Teri Garr), fails an audition for a soap opera, Michael dresses up as "Dorothy Michaels," auditions and lands the part. He joins the cast of the long-running daytime drama "Southwest General," quickly becoming the best friend and confidante of his beautiful co-star, Julie (Lange).
