Resident Evil exceeded my expectations by delivering scares and tension throughout

[Zach] Cregger is able to avoid the pitfalls of most video game adaptations by finding the similarities between his own sensibilities as a filmmaker ... and what it is that makes video games so enjoyable

A picaresque ride through videogame horror with a great performance from "picaro' Austin Abrams. Cregger makes a case for being this generation's John Carpenter.

Like Weapons, this Resident Evil is good, clean horror fun — if by "clean" and "fun" you mean "bloody" and "terrifying."

Cregger approaches the task without a hint of obligation, and the abandon and the gusto in his heart are unmistakably present throughout his latest film.
