Edward G. Robinson, Humphrey Bogart and Ann Sothern star in this story of a gangster who finds what he's been looking for while hiding out in a monastery ... and of the monks who find the hero they need in the gangster they dub Brother Orchid. Gang boss "Little John" Sarto (Robinson) abandons his life of crime to seek class in Europe only to return penniless after a few years. But his gang is now run by Jack Buck (Bogart), who takes Sarto out on a one-way ride. Sarto escapes, hiding in a monastery while plotting a way to regain his criminal empire, but he is gradually transformed by the gentle monks. Now, Sarto has one more task as a tough guy--defending the monastery from the gang trying to control its flower business, while finding a good husband for his former moll (Sothern)--before taking his vows as a monk.
