A former singer and kept woman in a Chinatown gambling house, Rose "The Frisco Doll" Carlton flees her violent past and escapes by ship to Alaska. Onboard, she's inspired by missionary Sister Annie Alden. When Sister Annie dies during the voyage, Rose assumes her identity and uses her unconventional evangelism to support a struggling mission while staying ahead of her pursuers.
