Accompanied by his beautiful but colossally ignorant mistress, Billie Dawn (Judy Holliday), the bullying and crooked junk tycoon Harry Brock (Broderick Crawford) arrives in Washington D.C. to manipulate a huge international business deal. Afraid that Billie's lack of social graces will wreck his plans, Brock hires writer Paul Verrall (William Holden) to educate her. Yet, as Paul helps change Billie into a woman of some enlightenment and grace, they fall in love. And by the time the brutish Brock catches on, he finds himself the dumbfounded loser. Holliday's priceless characterization earned her an Oscar® for Best Actress (one of BORN YESTERDAY'S five nominations including Best Picture), a remarkable feat considering her competition for the honor included Gloria Swanson in Sunset Boulevard and Bette Davis in All About Eve.

Critics Consensus: Marrying screwball romance with political satire, Born Yesterday is a substantive romp with a ferociously smart performance by Judy Holliday as an uncouth bombshell.
