Doris Day stars as a member of a small-time theatre company that finds itself stranded without bookings in Florida. But with a songwriter, an oil baron, his eligible daughter and a lot of luck, they will soon be headed for Broadway in the musical Lucky Me. Entertainers Candy (Day--Pillow Talk, Calamity Jane), Hap (Phil Silvers--Damn Yankees!), Duke (Eddie Foy, Jr.--The Pajama Game) and Flo (Nancy Walker) had expected a booking in a Florida hotel, instead they are working as domestics to pay their way--until handsome songwriter Dick Carson (Robert Cummings--Dial M For Murder) checks in. Now with the cast and the show, all they need is a backer to head to New York, which they find in the millionaire father (Bill Goodwin) of Lorraine Thayer (Martha Hyer), who has eyes for Dick . . . The only problem is that Candy is also starting to fall for the songwriter.
