John Travolta, Morgan Freeman, and Brendan Fraser (The Mummy) lend their talents to this searing detective thriller. Travolta plays Carson Philips, a hard-drinking LA private eye who takes a case in his old hometown of Galveston, Texas. While searching for a missing woman, Philips must confront a crime boss (Freeman), a shady doctor (Fraser), a sexy club singer (Kat Graham, "The Vampire Diaries"), his former lover (Famke Janssen, X-Men)-and his own dark, disturbing past.

This unsuccessful attempt at modern noir is painfully stale, obviously plotted, and incredibly boring.

An onslaught of private detective cliches crudely formed into a movie-like shape, The Poison Rose is filled with twists but bereft of surprises.

We've seen Travolta and Freeman in some masterpieces, but sadly this wasn't one of them.

Are you trying to be The Long Goodbye. I knew the Long Goodbye. I worked with The Long Goodbye. You, sir, are no The Long Goodbye.

It's a preposterous plot, with a damp-squib ending, and like an episode of Dallas, the dialogue gets phonier and phonier. "This is a bad place. Far worse than you can imagine." Ditto the film.
