Fred Astaire stars as American entertainer Jerry Halliday, who's suckered--much to his delight--into saving a lovely, English Damsel in Distress. While performing in London, Halliday is "elected" by the servants of Lord Marshmorton (Montagu Love) to rescue Marshmorton's daughter, Lady Alyce (Academy Award winner Joan Fontaine), from an arranged marriage--a mission abetted by Halliday's business manager (Academy Award winner George Burns) and daffy secretary (Gracie Allen). Halliday doesn't know that the beautiful girl in his chorus is a member of the aristocracy--or that his gallantry has been enlisted to save a wager between Marshmorton's servants ... but he does discover love in this delightful romantic musical comedy.
