Jarrot's version lacks visual contrasts, the narrative has no energy, and the pauses for the pedagogic songs are so awkward.

...A farce, a farrago, and a disaster, Lost Horizon has the reputation of a complete turkey, and even the most revisionist viewer can only reach the same conclusion; this ain't no Shangri La....

The musical aspects are the most disastrous because the cast is a first-rate one in straight performance.
