When Christine Lahti is in the driver's seat, this female road saga can abruptly take off like a car that stops choking and sputtering and leaps into a breathtaking overdrive.

Solomon's screenplay treads a delicate line between wit and preciousness; at its weakest, Zwick's direction goes for the canned poignance of TV. Beut there's a lot to relish in this funny, bittersweet, sharply written comedy.
