Hellboy is back, and he's on fire. From the pages of Mike Mignola's seminal work, this action-packed story sees the legendary half-demon (David Harbour) called to the English countryside to battle a trio of rampaging giants. There he discovers The Blood Queen, Nimue (Milla Jovovich), a resurrected ancient sorceress thirsting to avenge a past betrayal. Sadistic, disgusting, rambunctiously obnoxious, and displays completely shambolic filmmaking at its worst.

Hellboy is a huge misstep in Neil Marshall‘s filmmaking career.

The needless reboot of Hellboy sheds light on a union between director Neil Marshall and Lionsgate that practically screamed perfect match, but is in need of an annulment.

It's not merely that del Toro made two visually inspired, technically rich, and surprisingly touching superhero movies, it's that Marshall has made an aggravatingly terrible version of the same material.

Hellboy reminds us just how mediocre a comic book movie can be.
