After leaving school, Paula Haller returns to her mother Fritzi's Nevada gambling town just as Eddie Bendix comes back to town seeking a stake in local casinos. Despite warnings from sheriff Tom Hanson and Fritzi's efforts to control her future, Paula grows closer to Eddie, whose troubled history complicates relationships throughout the desert community.
