In Sylvania, Queen Louise's ministers worry that she remains unmarried. Meanwhile, dashing Count Alfred, recently disgraced for numerous affairs, returns from his diplomatic post. He and the queen meet, and their romance soon leads to marriage. But Alfred bristles at being a royal consort. Can he accept playing second fiddle to the queen?
