Inside a small, Manhattan answering service, operator Ella Peterson knows the details of her client's lives ... and she can't stop herself from helping in her own inimical, ditzy, sweet way. There's a whole city full of stories for Ella when telephone Bells Are Ringing. Ella's (Judy Holliday--Born Yesterday) latest heart throb is the voice on the other end of Plaza 0-4433, playboy playwright Jeffrey Moss (Dean Martin), who's in danger of becoming an alcoholic if he can't come up with a plot for his new play. Now, if there's one thing Ella has a lot of, it's stories. But how will Manhattan's most eligible bachelor feel about the woman with the kind telephone voice when he meets her in person...?
