Parisian tailor Maurice Courtelin travels to a grand country estate to collect an unpaid debt for suits he made for a deadbeat viscount. Introduced as a nobleman and welcomed in, Maurice quickly catches the eye of the beautiful but aloof Princess Jeanette, unaware that he is simply a common tailor. There is no quelling Mamoulian’s cleverness behind the camera. From the symphonic opening to its happily ever after, Love Me Tonight retains and sustains its joyous, formally ambitious absurdity.

This is such a silly and fun romp. I found the plot quite ridiculous as who would not want a suitor that is also a tailor? Imagine the future wardrobe possibilities!

There are really no "numbers" here, and no dancing at all-just a sophisticated weaving of song into the general atmosphere of wit and amour...
