This isn’t just a giddy romp where a badass in high-tops channels working-class rage and comes out on top. It’s a little more brutal, a little uglier, with deaths that wouldn’t be out of place in one of Bettinelli-Olpin and Gillett’s Scream movies.

It’s a routine sequel that’s bigger, but that doesn’t make it better. Instead, there’s bloat, blandness, and not nearly as much fun as there should be.

Ready or Not 2 continues the light-hearted, bloody humor of the first film, anchored by a committed performance from Weaving. Themes of a world controlled by the ultra-wealthy have only become more relevant in the 6 years since the original’s release.

If you liked the first flick you’ll eat this one up as the chaos is ramped up to wonderfully wild levels.

Ready or Not 2: Here I Come keeps the blood, the chaos, and the satire, but unfortunately loses that elegant simplicity in the process.
