When a young couple drive through Texas on their way from California to Florida, they are given wrong directions in a small town and become lost far from town in the dark of the night. Now a chain saw wielding, murderous cannibal--who wears the skin of his victims over his face--is pursuing them ... and the few people the couple meet help the serial murderer rather than his hapless prey.

I much preferred it over the second film...

...a typically underwhelming horror sequel...

Lacks the clarity and identity of the earlier 1974 and 1986 installments.

It's certainly a cut above the standard late-'80s horror film, though hardly up to the level of Tobe Hooper's original.
