The movie is full of silly sight gags that are pretty over the top. The exaggeration isn't so much mockery as it is a celebration of heavy metal culture, for all its bombast and fantasy elements.

Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar deserves to be met by deafening screams in favor of an encore.

Army of the Doomstar doesn’t click on all cylinders like the best Metalocalypse episodes, but it’s nevertheless a worthy conclusion to a beloved cult series.

Epic as a descriptor is thrown around too often as a hyperbolic compliment, but Metalocalypse: Army of the Doomstar rightfully warrants that description and then some.

If it’s hard to be a rock god, then it’s even harder to be a metal fan tasked with finding love, warmth, and empathy in a genre popularly and unjustly seen as lacking all of the above. That Small handily succeeds...is a black metal miracle.
