Despite his overtly sloven nature, Bridges still manages to imbue his signature charm to help "Bad" be presentable in any situation. There's a pain suppressed deep behind the booze and packs of cigarettes that Bridge can effortlessly sell the audiences.

The film glides by with an unassuming pace, with flashes of tenderness, humour and heartbreak.

Bridges has played characters like this all-time-low type before, most notably in The Fisher King, except none of them have the same sense of drained and desperate humanity that he displays here.
