A funny thing happened on the way to the bus station. Madonna stars as Nikki Finn in at totally offbeat comedy. Nikki's just been released from prison after serving four years for a crime she didn't commit ... and she's angry. When one of Nikki's lawyers comes to drive her home from the penitentiary, she hijacks the uptight attorney to help her find the real culprit. Now, harassed by the police, hunted by killers and babysitting a rare, wild South American feline, the two careen through the city on a madcap quest to find the person guilty of the crime for which Nikki served the time.

Madonna is that girl who’s the driving force behind this screwball farce. The comedy is a well-tuned star vehicle, and Madonna, the peroxided punk sprite of pop music, revs it up for a wild ride.

Poor timing, overacting and weak plotting combine to stifle such laughter as threatens to erupt.

It isn't all bad, but most of it is.

This is supposedly a romantic comedy, however in this film it is the romance that is sick-making and the comedy just isn't there.

Before Foley loses the film to insipid humor and excessive physical comedy -- in a rambunctious wedding fiasco at the film's close -- he is nevertheless successful at creating minor characters that are undeniably appealing.
