Steve Martin and Kathleen Turner star in this comic twist on a classic love triangle ... between a man, his wife, and the disembodied brain he loves. The world's most brilliant neurosurgeon falls deeply in love with a beautiful, unconscious patient and marries her--only to realize her personality is as hideous as her body is beautiful. But then he meets and falls in love with a brain that has everything he desires except a body. Martin makes old routines work by letting us know that they’re old and then doing them immaculately.

... this comedy drops the wild and crazy humor of Martin’s standup comedy act in a spoof of old Hollywood science fiction films (from Frankenstein” to Donovan’s Brain), femme fatale melodramas, and impossible love stories.

Steve Martin plays Dr. Hfuhruhurr, Kathleen Turner spoofs her star-making Body Heat role, and the Elevator Killer turns out to be the last person you would suspect. And so it goes in this zany comedy.

Even if this isn't Steve Martin's best role or his best film, it holds up pretty well, offering a glimpse of a comic genius at a wonderfully experimental stage of his career.
