On a British Army base in 1950s Germany, young Lance-Bombardier Terry Evans leads a night guard detail hours before his officer selection review. Defiant Gunner O'Rourke tests every ounce of Evans' shaky authority, dragging fellow gunner Featherstone into a drunken, reckless spiral that threatens Evans' career and turns a routine detail into a crisis.
