As both a war film and a Lang film, American Guerilla in the Philippines underwhelms. Lang minimizes or even erases many of his signature auteur traits. The visuals especially lag behind the Lang of the German years and his best Hollywood years.

It is exciting in its action and believably acted by Tyrone Power and Michelline Prelle.

There certainly is no accounting for the mechanistic nature of the script, for the lapses in continuity or for the lameness of the professionals in the cast.

Though critics pummeled the film at the time, it appears now as a top-notch action production with great pace and gusto, having the necessary elements of tension and drive, with an excellent score and lush photography.
