Red Hill follows young police officer Shane Cooper (Kwanten) as he relocates to the small country town of Red Hill with his pregnant wife Alice to start a family. But when news of a prison break sends the local law enforcement officers—led by the town’s ruling presence, Old Bill (Bisley)—into a panic, Shane’s first day on duty rapidly turns into a nightmare. Enter Jimmy Conway (Lewis), a convicted murderer serving life behind bars, who has returned to the isolated outpost seeking revenge. Now caught in the middle of what will become a terrifying and bloody confrontation, Shane will be forced to take the law into his own hands if he is to survive.

A revenge flick with a heart of innocent gold, Red Hill will entertain and provoke you to consider how your past impacts your future reality.

The age old trope of Cowboys and Indians is transformed into a vessel for the rage of Indigenous people who've been colonised since the day the British set foot in Australia.

Red Hill doesn't set up its foreshadowing as well as it might, but overall, it works as a tale of places where the West, for good and ill, is still alive.

An "all in one night" crime thriller that's equal parts old-school western and grimly intelligent horror film.

The production values are first rate and the action, heavenly influenced by old-fashioned westerns, is brutal and perfectly staged.
