There’s an effective, nuanced way to tell a story tackling this issue. Black and Blue does the exact opposite of that, eschewing all nuance and subtlety to make the most generic version of this story as possible.

I think that people right now feel that there needs to be some serious conversation about what we can do for reconciliation between the police and the community... This movie just doesn't contribute to that.

Poised to be something different, Black and Blue is sadly a misfire...

For a film with a bit of righteous anger, Black and Blue is a little too conventionally dramatised. So, it neither stimulates nor provokes as an editorial on the impact of racism and police violence in the US. Frankly, it feels like a cop-out.
