Disturbing, thought-provoking and anchored by excellent performances, Obsession is not only one of the year's best genre releases, but also one of the most memorable films I've seen in recent times.

It reduces what could have been a potent deconstruction of codependency to a twisted punch line, and shows us who this rising star is on the inside. It's not a pretty picture.

At 26 years old, Barker is speaking directly to his own generation -- the moviegoing Zoomers -- by making a meal out of their most pressing interpersonal crises.

Obsession takes "homage" to Jordan Peele’s horror masterpiece to the extreme, yet this poor man’s rip off fails to achieve the pinnacle of social commentary that Get Out achieved.
