The movie does what it says. Sinister 2 is all about the feeling that something evil, menacing, and disturbing will happen; that's what it literally leaves you hoping for.

Not nearly special, or even scary, enough to justify its existence, it neither furthers Bagul's back-story nor does anything new with the character.

A few chilling images and a terrific score by tomandandy can't make up for lackluster performances (mainly from a completely miscast lead), over-reliance on jump scares and an overall sense of ennui.

Sinister 2 doesn't rise to the level of classic, but it is an effective continuation of the original, spooky enough to rank as a very decent horror outing.

Sinister II's crime is not so much the calculating presence of a haunt hipster looking to stunt the growth of bewildered housing inhabitants as it is following the pedestrian path of boofests with banal bangs of exhilaration.
