Reporter Christopher Tyler relocates to Rome soon after his wedding, while his wife Cicely, an actress, refuses to go and stays in New York. As they focus on their careers, they drift apart, seeing each other only in passing. When a longtime friend and admirer urges Cicely to divorce Christopher and marry him, she must decide who and what she loves most: her husband, her friend, or her career.

This flick ripped my ticker out and stomped on it.

Something is thrilling about watching a star come into his own, and you get to see the Stewart persona molded into near perfection here.

Next Time We Love is directed smoothly by the busy and forgotten Edward H. Griffith. Joseph Valentine shoots everything on Charles D. Hall’s colossal sets, all vividly captured on this 2K master from Kino Lorber.

Next Time We Love is fine, if only to see James Stewart before he becomes James Stewart.
