Many films since have used ideas from 28 Days Later, and it has entered the collective consciousness as one of the great horror classics of the early '00s.

Manages to both pay respects to the zombie genre while entirely upending everything you expected from such outings, managing to be frightening throughout its run time, thanks in large part to the core cast.

It’s an exercise that breathes new life into familiar tropes and offers a wildly inventive perspective that’s quite invigorating.

28 Days Later captures how the infrastructure and social order designed to protect humanity create illusions of safety, a notion furthered in the post-9/11 world of increased paranoia and uncertainty.
