From Revolution Studios and Sony Pictures, Xander Cage (Vin Diesel) is a notorious underground thrill-seeker who, until now, has been deemed untouchable by the law. But when crack NSA Agent Gibbsons convinces Cage to infiltrate a ruthless Russian crime ring, this new breed of secret agent (codename: XXX) takes down the enemies of justice with a vengeance in this high-octane, turbo-charged thrill-ride from the acclaimed director of The Fast and the Furious.

Critics Consensus: It has an endearing lack of seriousness, and Vin Diesel has more than enough muscle for the starring role, but ultimately, XXX is a missed opportunity to breathe new life into the spy thriller genre.

What Parents Need to Know

Parents need to know that XXX stars Vin Diesel as Xander, a renegade thrill seeker pressed into covert service as a spy for the U.S. government. Explosive violence includes car chases, motorcycle chases, snowboard chases, machine gun and gun use, and missile launching. Characters use drugs, drink, and smoke; one of the baddies effusively praises smoking and is never seen without a cigarette dangling from his lips. When mercenaries discover that they've landed in a coca field in Colombia, some of them excitedly start ripping off parts of the coca plant and stuffing it into their pockets. In one scene, a number of people are killed in a particularly heartless fashion, while others watch and make fun of them. Implied sexual situations include a character telling his girlfriend to have sex with someone else; she doesn't have the choice to say no. Sex workers are treated as objects in the film, and even the main character treats women poorly. (Spy goggles with "penetrator mode" allow Xander to see through a female agent's clothing, her butt and bra visible.) A character explains his plans for world anarchy in a manner that's worth discussing with teens who see the film.
