This hilarious sendup of everyone's favorite guilty pleasure - the romantic-comedy - stars Paul Rudd and Amy Poehler as the most unlikely couple you'll meet outside a Nora Ephron film. Joel (Rudd) is a big-time corporate suit vying to shut down Molly's (Poehler) quirky indie candy shop around the corner … and to steal her heart. They live happily ever after…until they don't. But maybe they do? (Hint: Joel bares his heart in a big speech at the end.) From the director of Wet Hot American Summer and Role Models comes this fresh, irreverent comedy with heart.

Critics Consensus: They Came Together is surprisingly messy and perhaps too smart for its own good, but Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd's chemistry is enough to overcome many of the movie's flaws.

Every Movie Has a Lesson

Don Shanahan

The film is packed with smart humor, joke complexity, clever approaches, and an elaborate sense of story-building and delivery that most parodies lack.

…makes fun of rom-conventions while slavishly following them…

The jokes can be specific to a hermetic extreme: I don’t think the gag cutting from an exterior shot of the Strand bookstore to an interior that’s a smaller, different establishment might travel outside NYC, but it’s still a great niche joke...

...a brilliant satire of one of cinema's most beloved film genres, the romantic comedy.

Maintains a high level of humor and self-awareness for its entire run time.
