The makeup effects are believable, the film does not overuse cartoonish digital effects, and Wan's direction manages to develop a thick, dense atmosphere that compensates for some of the script's flaws. Full review in Spanish.

After years of lackluster releases from major studios, The Conjuring goes back to basics and manages to make something much more effective out of its formulaic story. It doesn't reinvent the wheel in any major way, but still largely thrilling.

If we're really going to depart from the known horror of the first decade of the century... instead of conditioning emotions so crudely, we have to give the public a real point of view. So far Wan doesn't have it. [Full review in Spanish]

Ten years later, The Conjuring is still one of the best horror films.

Perhaps Wan's biggest achievement is that when the traditional sequel setup is revealed, the overall feeling is one of anticipation, rather than the sadly familiar dread.
