Reviews

Keith & the Movies

Keith Garlington

It is southern gothic to the core with an emphasis on the unpleasant and disturbing. It’s not a movie for the faint of heart. But it is an exciting return of sorts for Nicholas Cage...

The film's unforgiving, often grating portrayal of Southern waste is redeemed by thoughtful performances from Nicolas Cage and his younger costar Tye Sheridan.

A story with some power, humor and heart.

Green avoids the cliché...opting instead for a soundtrack fused with an electronic pulse.

It's bleak, with little relief from scene to scene, but is a happy medium for Green, melding his indie work with his Hollywood films in an interesting and satisfying way.
