This contemporary film has an updated look and a high-tech polish while still retaining the spirit of past 'Godzilla' films. In Godzilla vs. Megaguirus, not only don't we know where we are, we also don't know how seriously we're supposed to take the movie.

By now, the franchise has fully recovered from the American debacle of just two years previous, and feels like a Godzilla film again, no qualifications necessary.

Godzilla battles giant dragonflies and black holes in the underwhelming (unconnected) follow-up to 2000.
