The energy level of the first sequel hovers around the monotonous formula hobbling many sequels, throwing more of what it thinks the audience wants (killer babies) but actually delivering much less.

The excellent first sequel to It's Alive expands the concept of the original and finds a more-confident Larry Cohen behind the camera.

It actually checks in with a few of the original's characters, giving them an interesting role in the proceedings and showing some actual progression in their lives, rather than just tossing them in as fan service.

Less lively than the original.
