Academy Award winners Clark Gable, Spencer Tracy and Claudette Colbert star with fabled screen goddess Hedy Lamarr in a tale as big, brawling and romantic as the Texas oil fields that become a Boom Town. Wildcatters and best friends Big John (Gable) and Square John (Tracy) compete for everything. Both strike it rich drilling for oil, but only one can win the heart of Betsy Bartlett (Colbert). When Big John's eye wanders from his wife, Betsy, to the sexy Karen Vanmeer (Lamarr), Square John chooses to protect the woman he loves rather than take the opportunity to be with her.
