Academy Award winner Jason Robards stars with Stella Stevens in director Sam Peckinpah's picturesque, comic Western tale of back-stabbing, murder, prostitution, greed and corrupt preachers--The Ballad of Cable Hogue. Robbed and left for dead by his two partners, Cable Hogue (Robards) survives when he discovers a waterhole astride a stagecoach route. Hogue creates a small empire by selling water to travelers in the desert and falls in love with a rich young widow of questionable reputation (Stevens). But, eventually, this hardened desert rat cannot survive the inexorable march of progress across the American West.
