In the film critics call a "white-knuckle action thriller", ex-cop Nick Cassidy (Sam Worthington, "Avatar" and "Clash of the Titans") escapes from prison to plan the ultimate heist: steal a $40 million diamond from cutthroat businessman David Englander (Ed Harris), and in the process prove his innocence. From the ledge of the famous Roosevelt Hotel, with the whole world watching, Cassidy plays a clever game of cat & mouse with the NYPD while his dutiful brother Joey (Jamie Bell) works against the clock to extract the diamond and reveal the truth.

Critics Consensus: Uninspired acting and preposterous plotlines defuse Man on a Ledge's mildly intriguing premise.

Reviews

Deep Focus Review

Brian Eggert

Part heist scenario, part hostage yarn, part cop drama, all of these elements feel halfhearted and eye-rollingly familiar thanks to a messy script.

Underneath the surface the movie has a fairly interesting premise. But it gets bogged down in it’s occasionally lame dialogue, it’s run-of-the-mill characters, and some truly head-scratching moments.

There's a very thin ledge between 'stupid fun' and 'stupid dull' and for it's first half hour Man On A Ledge teeters perilously close to the abyss.

Unfortunately, when the camera's not focused on that ledge the film loses all its suspense and drama.

A plain and tired heist movie with an interesting setup that is basically wasted with a lame script and uninspired performances throughout the entire piece.
