Ke Huy Quan and Ariana DeBose have no chemistry. We're just told that they're supposed to love each other. Love Hurts should have been made by a director familiar with romantic comedies.

This would-be action comedy is heavy on the action sequences, but fails miserably everywhere else – wasting a cast that, like the target audience, deserves a whole lot better than this.

Add in some brutally bad voiceover and a script that is almost all show and no tell except when it comes to the violence, and you end up disappointed, despite the delightfulness of its lead.

With DeBose and various romantic subplots awkwardly sidelined, Love Hurts is a sore case of squandered potential, running out of steam long before its taut 83 minutes are up.

There is definitely potential for Ke Huy Quan to build on the amazing performance that made him an Oscar winner, but Love Hurts isn’t the film to do it. Achieving little as an action film or a comedy, it’s proof that a talented star can’t save a bad film
