David and Bathsheba misses true film greatness by a margin, mostly because Hayward can't keep pace with Peck and because director Henry King got carried away on occasion, with the sweep of It all.

The Technicolor in David and Bathsheba... may in fact be the best American Technicolor I've ever seen. That is because its function here is not decorative and illustrative but, again, psychological.

David and Bathsheba can best be described as Samson and Delilah with taste.
