2U offers some good laughs as well as some tender moments that kept things feeling new. This year it won’t make it anywhere near to my ten but I still recommend a watch, especially if you were a fan of the first.

This sequel not only wrongly retcons unnecessary plot details of its predecessor, but it makes that correction its main story, continuously reminding the audience that we just have to accept it.

Happy Death Day 2U is a big risk film, one that might not resonate with the typical Blumhouse moviegoer, but it’s fun, no matter what dimension you’re watching it in.

Rothe is asked to go even further here in terms of balancing the horror and comedy elements. She’s still a lot of fun to watch and is more than able to do most of the heavy lifting.
