Jane Wyman delivers an Academy Award-winning performance as a young, deaf-mute woman living a hard-scrapple life on her parents' farm in this moving drama. When a new doctor (Lew Ayres) moves to the small, isolated town in Nova Scotia, he teaches Belinda (Jane Wyman) sign language. For the first time in her life, she can communicate with others, and a whole new life opens to her. But the outside world brings bewildering and overwhelming problems when she is raped by the town bully.
