In a juke joint, shiftless sharecropper Zeke falls for a beautiful dancer, Chick, but she's only setting him up for a rigged craps game, in which Zeke loses $100--the money he got for the sale of his family's entire cotton crop. When his brother Spunk is mortally wounded in the shootout that follows, Zeke leaves town, returning later as Brother Zekial, a preacher. Brother Zekial's forceful preaching draws the faithful in large numbers, and even Chick wants to be saved. Zekial has asked the pretty Missy Rose to marry him, but temptress Chick can still cast a spell over hapless Zeke in the momentous musical melodrama Hallelujah! Songs include: Irving Berlin's "Waiting at the End of the Road" and "Swanee Shuffle"; Stephen Foster's "Swanee River"; W.C. Handy's "St. Louis Blues"; and Richard Wagner's "Bridal Chorus (Here Comes the Bride)" from Lohengrin.
