In director John Ford's powerful and deeply moving drama of the price of Irelands "troubles," one man bears the weight of his role as The Informer. In Dublin during the Irish Revolution, Gypo Nolan (Victor McLaglen), a giant of a man and a peanut of a brain, has been rejected by the Irish rebels because of lack of intelligence. He only wishes for a life with his sweetheart, Katie Madden (Margot Grahame), who loves him just as he is. So when the British offer him twenty pounds for the location of a friend, Gypo takes the cash. But when his friend is killed, the guilt--and the fear that his friends will discover his guilt--destroys Gypo.
