That claustrophobic atmosphere, paired with complex storytelling and strong performances, makes 1408 a great watch, not only for the first time, but for a rewatch as well.

The viewer is never bored, stuff happens so quickly and so often in this film that it was extremely difficult to take notes on it because I almost always missed something.

Directed in a style that suggests The Evil Dead's Sam Raimi-meets-Alfred Hitchcock, Hafstrom delivered one of the scariest movies of the noughties and a film to make you appreciate music of The Carpenters in a whole new light.
