Critics Consensus: Carving out a unique identity for itself in the DCU while closely resembling a litany of body horror classics, Clayface takes time to get going until it eventually morphs into an icky and satisfying revenge thriller.

Battle Royale With Cheese

Clayface borrows from better horror films but fails to find its own voice, turning a promising reinvention into a derivative and ultimately dull monster story.

The effects, both practical and generated, are spectacularly gross, creating extreme moments of ick that will satisfy anyone looking for a gory slasher.

It's the perfect example of how to introduce a lesser-known comic book character without relying heavily on established DC mythology. It works as a character-driven horror and revenge story first, while still delivering the transformation.

The gore and body horror leave a lasting impression.

Not great, but surprisingly solid with some very good scenes. Whatever remains of Mike Flanagan's script and Tom Rhys Harries as Clayface are the two things making this movie stand out. Comic book fans will have fun, casuals might enjoy for Halloween.
