Pirate Radio is a film about the beginning of an age, and it captures that energy quite well. The plot may be treated in perhaps too fluffy a manner, but it’s an enjoyable experience, even if it was chopped and abbreviated by the distributor.

The camera in Pirate Radio won't stop wobbling - it's so damn annoying.

In Curtis's somewhat primitive view of things, the 1960s prove to have been about sleeping with whomever you liked, vaguely anarchic attitudes, and listening to loud music.

The cast are such old salts that they can't help but raise smiles and even the odd belly laugh, but the film's sexual politics will leave many viewers queasier than a sailor in a force 10 gale.

But there is a sense that we've seen it all before from Curtis; this is essentially Love Actually-on-sea, and anyone who can't stomach his special brand of happy-ever-after won't find much to tempt them here.
