For David Koepp to write that notion of “waning interest” into the expositional introduction of Jurassic World Rebirth is telling and damning at the same time.

Even though Edwards' visual nods to Spielberg and Rebirth's story autocannibalize the Jurassic series, it manages to be more purely entertaining than the last two installments.

Overall, “Jurassic World Rebirth” is an unsuccessful attempt to capitalize on a beloved intellectual property. This franchise, like the dinosaurs themselves, should be allowed to become extinct.

It is thematically appropriate that Spielberg made a masterpiece, inadvertently creating a monster that grew out of his control and won’t stop until it destroys itself and everything around it.
